WELCOME TO THIS COURSE

Learning a foreign language is learning a new culture. For that reason it is highly important  that a Modern Languages student gets to know the most important historical and socio cultural aspects that developed the creation and evolution of the language and civilization of the foreign country. Therefore, it becomes an urgent objective for a professional to understand the events that made a mark in the history of the United Kingdom, and to the world, in aspects such as politics, economics, and arts. This will allow the student to analyze national and international events from a historical, cultural, and critical point of view.

TASKS

1.     To  analyze critically the historical, social, and political which have helped shape British culture.

 2.     To establish connections between different literary works from the UK and the socio cultural contexts in which they were born.

 3.     To analyze  literary pieces and  specify the importance they had for the country, the English language, and the world of its time and the present.

 SHALL I COMPARE THEE TO A SUMMER'S DAY

Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate.
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer's lease hath all too short a date.
Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,
And often is his gold complexion dimmed;
And every fair from fair sometime declines,
By chance, or nature's changing course, untrimmed;
But thy eternal summer shall not fade,
Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow'st,
Nor shall death brag thou wand'rest in his shade,
When in eternal lines to Time thou grow'st.
So long as men can breathe, or eyes can see,
So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.

      2. William Shakespeare has written some of the best lyrical literary works ever to have been written. His style and abilities have been unmatched by any other author. One of the reasons for the success of his plays has been the choices of material. Shakespeare used drama and comedy in his writings.

      3. Comedy: All's Well That Ends Well
      History: Henry IV, part 1
      Tragedy: Romeo and Juliet
      Poetry; The Sonnets and others….

      4. For me this poem means about LOVE but not only in love as a word it is also about how It can be permanent towards all live although It dies.

      5. Why? maybe because he was writing to his love and he wanted to express to her that although she dies did not matter because towards time the love can be permanent with his poem.
